During 1969, KESSLER first topped the mark of 1 million bottles sold. The robust growth during the years of the economic miracle was also a sign of the ‘democratisation‘ of sparkling wine. It had changed from being an elitist fizz of the upper classes into an affordable drink for everyone. At KESSLER the growth was driven by Günter Weiss, who had obtained his doctorate in 1932 with pioneering work on the development of the German sparkling wine industry.
